Turkey is the biggest producer of fresh and dried apricots in the world, accounting for 68% of dried fig production. Plantations in Turkey are concentrated in the province Malatya followed by Elazığ, Erzincan and Iğdır. The majority of harvested apricots are dried for export. The remainder is consumed fresh in the domestic market and also used in industrial production such as fruit juice and jams. Turkey’s apricot production centre Malatya is also the number one dried apricot exporter in the country. Turkey is the largest exporter of dried figs with a market share of 74%.
