Annual melon production in Turkey is in the region of 1.8 million tons. Per capita consumption in Turkey stands at 22 kg. Similar to watermelon, Adana Province is the biggest melon producer in Turkey. In 2018, 12% of total production originated from Adana. Melons are also grown in Konya, Denizli, Antalya, Ankara and Manisa.

This variety is originally from the Manisa region. The crop usually matures in 90 days and is ready for harvest around mid-August. Kırkağaç dislikes rain and has a shorter storage life so it is consumed in the domestic market during late summer. Mersin has become the main production centre of this variety in terms quality, flavour and excellence. There are two registered varieties: Kırkağaç-589 and Kırkağaç-637.

Galia is a very productive variety with a resilient plant and a moderately early maturation period. The average weight of the fruit ranges between 2 and 2.5 kg. Galia has a very high sugar content and thrives both outdoors and in greenhouses. The fruit stores well and the plant itself is tolerant to powdery mildew. Early harvest starts around mid-April in greenhouses and mid-May in fields.
